Extricom system components
The Extricom WLAN System is a next-generation 802.11-compliant switched WLAN infrastructure solution. It consists of a central WLAN Switch, connected to a set of UltraThin Access Points.Wireless LAN Switches
The WLAN Switch is the building block for an enterprise-grade, high-performance WLAN. Every member of the Extricom switch family provides the same Interference-Free channel blanketâ„¢ functionality, including support for multiple 802.11a/b/g channel blankets, TrueReuse, 802.11i security, built-in Power Over Ethernet (PoE) injectors on all ports, built-in Rogue AP detection, and centralized configuration, management and monitoring.
The Extricom WLAN Switch is available in three port densities: the 8-port EXSW-800, 12-port EXSW-1200 and the 24-port EXSW-2400. Each port connects to a multi-radio AP through a single standard Cat 5e/6 cable. Each type of switch can be mixed in the same deployment, enabling the Extricom WLAN to grow with the Enterprise.

UltraThin Access Points
Extricom’s EXRP-20 and EXRP-40 UltraThin Access Points (APs) are high-bandwidth devices, containing multiple standard 802.11 radios. Since the APs have no software, they require no configuration. This makes them fully interchangeable, enabling truly plug-and-play installation. APs are connected to the Extricom WLAN Switch via standard Cat5e/6 cables.
With all intelligence residing in the Switch, APs may be placed as close together as necessary to provide high-quality, high-speed connectivity from all locations within the enterprise. In this respect, the Extricom deployment philosophy is like that of wired networks: simply place APs wherever service is required, based solely on the grade services desired (i.e. connection rate), without any of the interference, channelization, or coverage/capacity constraints seen in traditional WLANs. And you do this without time and labour-intensive RF cell planning.

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) Range Extender
The Extricom EXRE-10 PoE Range Extender is a complementary component to the Extricom WLAN system. The EXRE-10 doubles the standard 100-meter range of PoE, allowing Extricom UltraThin Access Points to be placed up to 200 meters from the Extricom WLAN switch.
The EXRE-10 is connected in-line using standard Cat5e/6 cable, does not require an external power feed, and is bi-directional, with both ports able to serve as input or output. The design of the PoE Range Extender reflects the emphasis on deployment simplicity and operational flexibility that is the hallmark of an Extricom solution.
The EXRE-10 offers an additional level of adaptability in the fact that it is a standalone product. It can be used in any standard Ethernet deployment to extend PoE range, and does not require the purchase of an Extricom WLAN.
